Hi all! I haven't been ignoring you, I'm just really busy writing...That's right *snort*, I'm a writer (among other things). But that's not why I'm posting today. I usually don't post about how to do something unless I've actually tried it myself, and understand how it works.
So today I'm going to show you how to reset the Blog post element. Okay, I know you're asking why in the world would you want to do that? Well there could be a couple of reasons. Like if you comment link at the bottom of the post disappears, or the posts won't show...or anything major malfunction of any other part of that particular widget.
Now...going back to the comment thing for a minute. If your comment link is not showing on your blog posts, check out these three things first to make sure that all of your settings are correct:
Post Options in post editor...the box at the bottom of the rectangle post box that you write in....click on 'Post Options' and make sure comments are allowed.
Settings - Comment tab...on the Settings tab, go to comments and make sure they are set to "Show".
Template - Page Elements - Blog post...and lastly go to your Layout(Template), go to Page Elements, then click on the edit box in the Blog Post element...hint:(it will be the biggest on the page). When the Configure box opens up, make sure comments are checked.
Okay, after all that your @#%$# comment link is still not showing...LOL...chill! We can fix it.
LOL...we're going to play in your template HTML...wheeee!
Go to Template...Edit HTML...scroll down in the code until you find this piece of code (the black highlighted section):
Okay, select it like I did and cut that puppy out of there. Save the piece in your mouse because you're gonna put it back in a few minutes. And remember where it was, so that you can put it back in the exact same place...LOL! If you're anal retentive like me...copy a whole section of the template...like say five lines before and after the section you're going to cut out and save it on a Notepad page ore WORD page...just so you can see the exact spot to put it back!
Okay...I digress...cut that highlighted section out of the template and click save...it will be fine...go ahead...click!
Now...this page pops up:" Warning Will Robinson, Warning...LOL...just kidding, I'm a Lost In Space addict! Anyhow...the page says...Egads, you're about to delete a widget!...LOL...never fear...click that Confirm and Save...with pride!
Okay now that you've deleted the bad bugger, you're going to reset the widget by scrolling down the template to the spot where you deleted the piece of code that is still in your mouse...Remember up above I told you to remember where you took it out of...another thing that you could do to remember the spot, before you take the piece out hit your Enter key a few times before and after the section, LOL...it will leave a big hole in the template, that will be easy to find!
Okay...mouse pointer in the empty spot...right click...paste....put that baby back and hit Save.
TaDa!!!! You're all better now, the Blog widget has been reset!
You are truly an angel. Thank you so much for responding to my blogger help group post in my hour of need! I truly appreciate your kindness & generosity in helping me fix my problem!
Sincerely,
-C

I tried resetting my post as per your blog but the problem I have is still there - my links show up as text not a link and it automatically shoves it at the bottom of my blog post, can you suggest anything else I could try because this is really getting on my nerves as you can imagine.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Sue.
Sorry, the one called Herbal Supplements, all the others are working just fine.
Thanks heaps for your help.
Regards,
Sue
Sorry, I just went in to check and it's only set up as a draft at the moment I haven't published it yet because it wasn't working, would you like me to publish it as is??
Regards,
Sue
Ok, that might work now for you, thanks, hope you can see what the problem is.
Regards,
Sue

I have even tried switching to classic template.. Still i face the problem.. Plz help me..
What are you talking about that is not working?
The comment links is okay, but the links on the archieve is a big bummer for me.
Please help me.
Go over to the Blogger help group and post that as a problem. Use the link on the top left on my front page here, to get you over there!
YOU RULES!!!
Thanks a lot for the fun post and the efficient help!
Nothing else had worked.
you saved my blog (and my mind). Too bad I didn't find this a few hours ago! :)
Thanks for the great tip
Help!
Thanks!
Do you mean that you can't get into it?
Are you using, or were you using Gmail?
If you can't get into it, you can't delete it anyhow.
If you have been blogging for some time, you have developed pagerank, and a following. If you delete the blog you will be starting from scratch.
Thank you very much.
Now I think I'll just go off somewhere and soak my head in some ice water.
I have done the three checks to see if comments are configured and then I did your widget check and still ain't got no comments. is there anything i can do?
c
You can't just look at it to see that it looks the same.
the power of the internet wow, anything can be solved. Now if I can fix the hinges on this darned laptop!
I was about to write saying I had a raod block in my attempt to follow your instructions. I had a bunch of other code interlaced with what you showed.. I ended up cut out the whole section to get what you showed outathere and it worked!
really appreciate you sharing this .
cheers!
Then went away for a "time out" - did it again and it worked!!!
You're a champ!
I followed all the steps carefully but no success. It still shows just the link to the comment.
The text of the comment added by users to my posts doesn't appear underneath.
Why????
I must have a classic template from 2003... but I have everything enabled and still nothing shows up, and that code that you highlight is not even in my template?

Tks

Just out of curiosity, how could deleting html content and adding it back solve the problem?? Or am I asking a little more technical detail :-)
Once that happens, it is always translated with the misrepresentation. What you're literally doing is making the computer re-issue the code in its correct format :-)
Once again, a massive thanks.
You're a star!
L
Thank you. It worked.
Look at your template to get the size of your header and then reduce the image to that size, and it should work fine!
My bad.
Glad you're working again!
Thank you
Thank you!
I've been trying to get my comment box back on my blog for ages and this is actually worked! You're a saint.
I've been having problems with comments not showing up...I publish them but they just disappear, not all comments some show up but it is frustrating as I'm not sure how to fix the issue.
I looked at the fix in this post and the piece to cut and repast in my blog says "no" were yours says "yes"...
www.azureislandsdesigns.blogspot.com
Any thoughts??????
Cheers
Your blog seems rather lovely. Why do you need moderation? The comments should automatically come to you anyhow, even with moderation turned off..if you filled in your email address in the box at the bottom of the "Comments" section in your SetUp tab.
that way you could delete any stray comments that you didn't like, but all the rest would show up.
btw...when you delete a comment, check the "remove it forever" box below the delete button, and it won't leave that stupid "Comment removed by moderator thing".
There is no link for comments.
check out my blog and youll see.
any suggestions?
I don't know what to do :(
There's really nothing we can do for custom layouts :-(
Irritating. I don't know what to do, the ones that offers solutions like "change code A for code B" and "delete code C" always talk of of a piece of code that I don't have...
I would really appreciatte your help. Thank you.
Solutions listed for Blogger only work, for the most part...on their templates, not custom ones...or classic ones.
Thank you so much for your tutorial...but I'm still having problems. I checked all my settings, and I removed the widget, 3 times. I have two blank spaces where my time stamp and my comments links are supposed to be. I don't know how to fix this. I am using the minima template. And I got a code for the tink bg off of jellypages. I would be so greatly appreciative if you could look at my blog and tell me what you think. Its sexytink23.blogspot.com.
I tried posting in the group posting but I couldn't even do that (I'm very new to blogger.)
Thank you for your help.

The Professional is very nice...but this daggone reaction thing is frustrating.
Thanks for your posts and good luck with your writing projects.
I have tried everything. Now I tried this and it didnt work. Also, mine isnt the same as your black highlighted area. Mine is the same until showaddelement (that ='no'> on mine)
I dont know if there is any hope for me, but if you have any insight I would be greatly appreciative!!
Becky
Yes I have checked everything... more than three times. I've spent hours trying to get this fixed. I want to pay you to go in and make sure everything is right. Can you do that? I am so frustrated!
I can see them, and I got the correct form to post a comment.
I tried the widget fix you suggested but I still can not get my comments at the bottom of my page, could you check out my page and give me suggestions?
Thanks,
Colleen
At the bottom of the box that you create a post in, it says "Posting options" click there and check that comments are enabled.
Then go to your Dashboard, then Settings, then the Comments tab, and make sure that comments are enabled there.
Let me know!
Here is my blog page. Thanks again for your help.
http://cmc730.blogspot.com/
I tried you suggestion of changing the template and switching back, still didn't see where I could add comments to the page.
Install another template, and leave it there till you tell me so I can go look at a new one.
Did you check all the comment places in your Settings? Are you sure, because for it to do this it has to be being controled by your DAshboard.
Comments - Show
Who Can Comment - Anyone
Comment Placement Form - Full Page
Comment Default for Posts - New Posts Have comments
Those should be the important ones right now.
Thanks for your help, you are wonderful at getting back to those of us how are lost in this world!!!
Best wishes
Colleen
You have moderation turned on. Did you make sure to put you email address in the box below the moderation part, so that you get emails when a comment comes in that needs to be moderated?
Leo
Then from your Dashboard, go to Settings, then click on the Commments tab.
Make sure you have these settings:
Comments - Show
Who Can Comment - Anyone
Comment Placement Form - Full Page
Comment Default for Posts - New Posts Have comments
Those should be the important ones right now.
Now go make a new post, even if it's only a few words...and see if you get a comment link for it!
Thanks,
Leo
Refresh your browser. It worked!
Please help me changing the text in the "send button" so instead fo saying "Publish comment", it only say "OK" or whatever. I've been searching and searching without results.
Thanks!
Don't be screwing around with something you don't understand or you'll render your template unuseable!
xo
I have loaded short videos a number of times with no problem. This one is longer, but within the space parameters. Any ideas?
Thanks! MJ (islandwomanculebra.blogspot.com)
--Barbara Fiore for Peter Fiore!
A template I used seems to have some kind of built-in comment problem - the comment link is there, but clicking it doesn't do anything. The code doesn't contain the section that you suggest to replace in your guide to resetting the widget, either.... If you have any suggestions they would be sooooooo welcome - as is everything else that you already do!
Where is the template that you are using? It may be a thrid party template that didn't have comments enabled on it.
tQ s0o muchhh....muchas gracias~
i found something similar, but i'm afraid to cut that out.
any help?
Are you using a Blogger template or a thrid-party template?
i think i might just find a new template on blogger
